About the Scorecard
The National Black Food & Justice Alliance’s (NBFJA) Policy Scorecard is a tool designed to evaluate policies through the lens of Black food sovereignty and land justice. It enables NBFJA members and partners to assess local, state, and federal policies, ensuring that they align with NBFJA’s core values and support the advancement of Black communities.
Purpose
- Provide clear, measurable criteria for assessing policies related to food systems and land access.
- Ensure policies align with the values of Black food sovereignty, land justice, and economic empowerment.
- Serve as an educational and organizing tool to empower communities to advocate for policy changes.
Goals
- Support Black land stewards, food systems workers, and communities to understand how policies impact them and encourage them to organize around key issues.
- Hold elected officials and policymakers accountable to Black communities by offering clear criteria to measure impact and substantive change.
- Adapt and revise the scorecard based on community feedback and changes in policy landscapes.
